Iskender Kebaps

Last night we went to dinner at Iskender Kebaps restaurant.  There is only one thing on the menu -- or, actually, there is no menu, as there is only one thing they serve: Iskender Kebaps.  This is a special recipe that was developed in Bursa and they now have a few restaurants in Istanbul as well which are run by the grandchildren of Iskender, who developed this recipe. 

Basically, it is a plate with cut up pita bread, thinly sliced basted lamb meat piled on top, covered with a tomato sauce with yogurt to the side.  Then, at the table, the waiter comes through and pours hot butter over the whole plate!!!!  I think we all know that everything is better with butter!  And this was no exception.  It was served with an unstrained, slightly fermented grape juice to help with the digestion.
